To mark the closing of «Rosa Winkel, zweiteilig, 2026», we invite you to a conversation between Heinz Peter Knes and Julius Pristauz on 26 August 2026 at 19:00, followed by a screening of «SCHAM» (2025) in the presence of director Lukas Röder.
In conversation with Julius Pristauz, Heinz Peter Knes will speak about his work «Rosa Winkel, zweiteilig, 2026», currently on view, its meaning and urgency in the present, as well as how it came about. From there, the conversation will situate the work within his broader practice and look at different phases of his work. Another focus will be on the medium of photography and the ways in which its context and conditions have changed over the past decades—particularly through the shift from analogue to digital—and how abstraction might be understood as a response to these changes. Finally, the conversation will address recurring interests, methods, and approaches within Knes’ practice.
Heinz Peter Knes is an artist working with photography. His practice addresses the specificities of the medium while taking into account its generic quality. Questions of identity and representation, the documentary, error, and dissolution come together in his serially structured body of work. Alongside his exhibition practice, including as a curator, he has developed various publication formats, often experimental and collaborative. His engagement with authorship has also led to a writing practice of his own. In 2023, he published his reflections on influence in the volume Correspondences with Is-Land Publishing, Paris.
Julius Pristauz lives and works in Berlin. He studied Transmedia Art at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and Performance at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno, Czech Republic. In his multimedia practice, Pristauz explores performative forms of expression and their relationship to built space. His installations and performances repeatedly address the construction and permeability of identities and social surfaces, as well as the tensions between private and public spheres. Alongside his work as an independent artist, he works as a freelance curator and writer.
For the evening, Heinz Peter Knes will also install his work «Die Schwulennummer» (2006) on site at Bartningallee 2–4.
The conversation will be followed by a screening of «SCHAM», Lukas Röder’s feature-film debut, which the director will introduce in person. The rigorously formal film follows a confrontation between a young man and his mother, revolving around memory, the inability to speak, and a fractured relationship. The two characters’ act of filming one another itself becomes a central means through which this confrontation unfolds. «SCHAM» received the Prize of the Ecumenical Jury at the Film Festival Max Ophüls Preis in 2025.
