On 28 February at 14:00, we will be visiting the Michel Majerus Estate in Berlin. The Estate is housed in Michel Majerus’ (1967–2002) former studio in Prenzlauer Berg and is dedicated to researching, preserving, and contextualising the work of the artist. Since 2012, it has served as a site for exhibitions, screenings, talks, and research-based projects, inviting artists, curators, and scholars to engage with Majerus’ multifaceted practice.

During our visit, we will receive an introduction to the Estate and to Michel Majerus’ work by Ruth Kißling, Director of the Michel Majerus Estate, together with her team. The introduction will provide insight into the Estate’s activities, its archival work, and Majerus’ artistic practice, which spans painting, installation, and moving image, as well as his interest in the circulation of images within contemporary visual culture.

Our visit will include a screening of Meine Sicht auf Polke (1997), a performative lecture by Michel Majerus originally presented at the Bundeskunsthalle in Bonn in the context of the exhibition Sigmar Polke: Die drei Lügen der Malerei. In this work, Majerus projected the television series Urmel aus dem Eis (1969) and a demo tape of the video game Super Mario 64 (1996 Japan/US, 1997 Europe) onto two paintings by Polke, connecting these projections with a lecture reflecting on his own artistic strategies and questions surrounding image production, circulation, and reception.

We very much look forward to the visit and would like to warmly thank the Michel Majerus Estate for their generosity, and especially Nina Kehr, for making this visit possible.

Participation is free of charge.
Spots are limited to 20 people.
